Iberá Natural Reserve

Watch the fauna. Here, swamp deer and Pampas deer, capybaras and mantled howlers, caiman yacares and broad-snouted caimans, snakes and lizards all live together. The species which are the hardest to watch are the maned wolf and the neotropical otter. And at night, in moonlit safaris on the lakes, you can see nine-banded armadillos and wildcats. Geographic location: Province of Corrientes, Northeast region of Argentina.
How to get here: the best way to reach the Reserve is via Colonia Carlos Pellegrini, 120 km from Mercedes city. It should be borne in mind that, due to the characteristics of the soil, special vehicles must be used. By air, visitors can take a flight to Corrientes capital city and from that point go to Mercedes (245 km) by land. It is 850 km away from Buenos Aires.
Area: 1,300,000 hectares.
Climate: Tropical. Winter is dry and the lowest temperatures can reach 5°C. In summer, temperature can climb up to 50°C and it often rains.
Ideal time of the year: March through November.
Recommended length of stay: 3 to 5 days.
Recommended clothing: light clothes, a cap, sunscreen and repellent.
What to do: go horseback riding, sailing, canoeing, kayaking and hiking, for the main purpose of watching the fauna.
Tips: fill the fuel tank in Mercedes as there are no gas stations on the way. Book accommodation in advance.
