Watch the flamingos turning the lagoon pink. Here you’ll find over 30,000 birds from the three flamingo species living in the country. Also, watch birds that only live in the Puna: the giant coot, the Andean avocet and the Puna plover. If you travel in summer, meet the migrant birds coming from the northern hemisphere, such as the Hudsonian godwit and the Wilson’s phalarope. A world of life for you.

How to get there: From San Salvador de Jujuy, drive along Ruta Nacional 9 up to Abra Pampa. Then take Ruta Provincial 7 up to the park ranger’s office, where an internal 7-km road starts.

Altitude: Between 3,400 and 3,800 meters above sea level.

Climate: dry climate of high areas, with extreme temperature changes.

Recommended length of stay: 1 to 2 days.

Recommended clothing and gear: Warm clothes suitable for significant temperature changes.

What to do: Wildlife and nature watching.

Tips: Fuel up in advance, as there are no gas stations in the area; you will find one at the city of Rinconada. In summer, check the road conditions due to the rainfall.
