Los Menhires Archaeological Museum
Explore an open-air reserve that will take you to the beginning of the Christian Era in Tucumán province.
Would you like to visit a museum surrounded by valleys and gorges? Come to the touristic village El Mollar in the north region of Argentina, and embark on a journey around the Archaeological Museum Los Menhires. Get amazed at stone monuments hand sculpted more than 2,000 years ago. Can you imagine how hard it can be to sculpt and move those giants? They can be up to three metres high and weigh four tonnes.
Observe the quartz and granite inlays of some menhirs. Gaze at the geometric figures, human faces, and feline animals they represent. Did you know some of these figures suggest phallic forms? Legend has it that native communities used them to worship fertility. Enjoy this experience in the wild landscape of Valle de Tafí, in front of the La Angostura dike, in the province of Tucumán.
