Did you know that the most important network of mountain refuges in Patagonia is in San Carlos de Bariloche? On the shores of the Toncek Lagoon, visit the Frey Refuge. More than 1,600 meters high, the López refuge awaits you on the hill that shares its name. Near the Témpanos lagoon is the San Martín refuge, better known as Jakob. And on the Tronador hill, the Otto Meiling refuge opens its doors to you. Live it all in Río Negro.

Geographic location: Province of Río Negro, Argentine Patagonia.

How to get there: By plane, to Teniente Luis Candelaria International Airport in San Carlos de Bariloche. By bus, from different parts of the country, or by car via Ruta Nacional 5.

Altitude: 1,500 meters above sea level (average altitude)

Climate: Cold and dry, with heavy snowfalls in winter.

Recommended length of stay: 2 to 5 days.

Recommended clothing and gear: Warm clothing, suitable for extreme temperatures. Technical trekking and mountaineering gear.
