Argentina Weather: forecast, temperature, rain, seasons and everything to prepare for your trip
In addition to the four well-defined seasons, Argentina has many different climates depending on the region of the country. Here's a guide to what to wear and how to best prepare for your trip.
Argentina is huge and diverse, with a vast extension from north to south ranging from 22° to 55° south latitude. This offers a unique climatic diversity that varies significantly depending on the season and region.
The country spans the tropics as well as the sub-Antarctic zones and provides a wide range of climate experiences for travelers.
Below, we offer you a detailed guide to Argentina's climates throughout the seasons in its different areas so that you can plan according to the time of year.
To find out the weather conditions and the forecast for the next few days, you can see the updated data from the National Meteorological Service.

What is the weather like in Argentina
Although Argentina is generally classified as a country with a subtropical-temperate climate, there are significant regional variations.
The Andes Mountains play a crucial role in Argentina's climate configuration. From 40° S to the north, the Andes are high and block moisture from the Pacific, creating a drier climate in the northwest and the Argentine Chaco.
On the other hand, south of 40° S, the mountain range is lower, allowing the entry of humid winds from the west that cause rainfall in a narrow strip on the Argentine side before drying up as it crosses the Patagonian plateau.

Types of weather in Argentina
Warm Climates
● Subtropical without dry season: rainfall throughout the year on the Littoral.
● Subtropical with dry season: dry season in winter in the northern provinces.
Temperate
● Humid temperate: warm summers and cold winters with rainfall between 500 and 1200 mm in Buenos Aires, Entre Ríos, Córdoba, south of Santa Fe, east of San Luis and north of La Pampa.
● Arid temperate: less rainfall and more marked thermal amplitudes in Córdoba and San Luis mountain ranges.
Arid climates
● Puna: high daily thermal amplitude and little rainfall in summer.
● Patagonian steppe: low temperatures and winter rainfall.
Cold Climates
● Patagonian-Fuegian Andes: abundant rain in winter with development of Andean forests.
● Magellanic and Nival: rain all year round and permanent snow on high peaks.
Atmospheric dynamics and temperatures
Atmospheric dynamics in Argentina are dominated by several climatological factors such as temperature, atmospheric pressure and winds.
Temperatures
● Northern Argentina: from the border with Paraguay to the center of the country, temperatures are mainly influenced by latitude and proximity to the ocean. The highest temperatures are found in the north of the Chaco, while to the south, the maritime influence moderates thermal variations.
● Western Argentina: isotherms are dominated by the height of the Andes, which causes temperatures to drop considerably with altitude.
Annual Thermal Amplitude
The annual thermal amplitude varies significantly in Argentina:
Central-North Patagonia: it registers variations of more than 16°C/60.8 °F due to the influence of tropical air masses in summer and polar air in winter.
● Coastal areas: the amplitude decreases to less than 10°C/50ºF due to the moderating influence of the ocean.
● Northwest: it has amplitudes of less than 9.6 C/49.28 ºF due to the altitude of the Puna.
The daily thermal amplitude increases with altitude and continentality but decreases with latitude and maritime influence. In the northern region, this breadth is remarkable because of the combination of altitude and continentality.
Atmospheric pressure and winds
Two anticyclones, located in the Atlantic and in the Pacific, influence the winds over Argentina. North of 40° S, northeast and east winds from the South Atlantic anticyclone predominate. In Patagonia, westerly winds are intense and persistent, while in summer, a cyclone known as the "NOA low" brings warm, moist air from the Atlantic.
Humidity and Precipitation
Humid Regions
● North of 40° S: tropical areas influenced by humid winds from the Atlantic.
● Misiones and North: summer rainfall and high evaporation.
Dry Regions
● Arid Diagonal: it crosses the country from northwest to southeast, characterized by deserts and steppes.
● Extra-Andean Patagonia: rainfall of less than 200 mm per year, especially in the Puna.
Rainy Seasons
● Summer: the North and Cuyo get rains due to the low of the NOA.
● Winter: Patagonia and southern Chile have winter rains due to fronts and cyclones.
