Caspalá Charm —Chosen among the World’s Most Beautiful Villages
It is in Jujuy and has been recognised in the Best Tourism Villages contest by the World Tourism Organization (WTO).
Caspalá has 300 inhabitants, and it is located in the Valle Grande department, 240 kilometres away from San Salvador de Jujuy. It is at 3,100 metres above sea level and has a mountainous relief.
The Best Tourism Villages is a WTO initiative that recognises rural villages across the world for their commitment to tourism promotion, cultural heritage preservation, and sustainable development. These places have managed to adopt innovative tourism approaches, and they foster their beliefs, knowledge, products, and lifestyles. Why? To boost and give value to their uniqueness.
Caspalá was distinguished among the world’s best villages in this contest. Charming for its secrets, history, and magic, and unique for its culture, simplicity, and postcard-like landscapes, this village has varied origins and gastronomic offers that entice globe travellers, as everywhere in the country.
Located at a bit more than 200 kilometres from Jujuy’s capital, more precisely in the Valle Grande department and among red mountains at 3,000 metres above sea level. It is a 300-inhabitant agricultural township ready to welcome tourism guests. The guides’ warmth, accommodation places, craftwork, and gastronomy place it on the board as one of the best of the world.
Travel tip: This is a key destination to embark on the journey towards Camino del Inca and the Serranía de Hornocal!
Trevelin (Chubut) and Concepción del Yaguareté Corá (Corrientes) were also nominated in the contest. So, now, what’s the magic behind these villages, and all Argentinian towns, that make them so special? Let’s uncover some of the best-kept treasures.
The Craftwork
Fairs, small streets, and lasting memories. Local craftwork freezes in a single object the spirit of a whole town, and there’s nothing better than getting one to have our own talisman to take us to where we were happy in a blink of an eye. Argentina knows about memories, so there are loads of amulets. Bracelets, items of clothing, mates, naturally-dyed fabric, and much more. The mix of textures and handmade dyes win every traveller’s heart.
Their Colours
Colours in Argentina? Everywhere. The candidates for the Best Tourism Village prize are here to prove it. Trevelin becomes full of bright colours as tulips blossom, creating a chromatic interplay that perfectly matches the white mountains and green environment. Water and land colours in Corrientes are amazing, getting better when the sun sets. And Caspalá, together with all the northern villages, stamps charming reddish hues in every hill and mountain. Imagine the textile rainbow created by northern clothing!
People’s Warmth
One thing we know for sure: being warm. Loads of hugs, kisses, and laughter. So much so that even the smallest villages grasp this concept. That’s why every time you step into a town, you’ll feel people’s warmth and welcoming affection. That’s why we always say we’d come back, even though we met them one day. That’s why holidays in the country’s provinces arouse everyone’s emotions.
Their Gastronomy
Argentina is a synonym for aromas and delicious flavours. Tamales and empanadas in the north; fish and lamb in the south; locro, stews, alfajores, dulce de leche, and the famous national meat. Villages, true to their roots, are the cradle of recipes. They keep the homemade tastes and grandma’s recipes’ essence. To make a long story short, it’s all about sensory shows that make the most demanding palates be delighted.
