Seven Reasons Why the Nahuel Huapi National Park Is Considered an Argentinian Natural Wonder

A mountainous landscape decorated with green, turquoise, and blue brushstrokes finds its greatest splendour in the south of Argentina —more precisely in the provinces of Neuquén and Río Negro. Its 710,000 hectares are the perfect refuge for the Patagonian forests of the area and the fauna living in them. Amphibians, mammals, reptiles, birds, and fishes. Three different perspectives (underwater, on land, or from the peaks) witness the same natural phenomenon. All the views reach the same conclusion: the friendly animals that inhabit the park know how to make the most of their home. One of the emblematic species is the Southern river otter that lives in the lakes, streams, and rivers of the area. In addition, the colonial tuco tuco (a rodent that builds its house underground) is a unique species in the world that can only be found here. You can also see south Andean deer, kodkods, Andean condors, and pudus (the smallest deer in the world).

The feeling of the wind caressing your face, the cold of the water toying with your feet, or the slight movement of the horse’s back can be experienced in this natural oasis, which has a special itinerary for the restless souls. Rafting, trekking, kayaking, diving, horse riding, climbing, mountain biking, skiing, and paragliding are some of the alternatives to enjoy the landscape from another angle, with a surge of adrenaline all throughout. One of the favourite activities in this local wonder. The entire park can be explored with a good pair of trainers and a map. On the other hand, lagoons also dazzle with their water mirrors, enabling trips in the midst of local vegetation. Espejo, Correntoso, Gutiérrez, Mascardi, and Frías lakes are some of the most popular, together with the Cretón, Azul, and Ilón lagoons.
