Three Destinations that Show Their Most Beautiful Side in Winter

Argentina's landscapes dazzle visitors all year round. But some of them are well-kept secrets that shine even brighter between the months of June and September. Here, winter reveals some unforgettable sites that deserve to be visited covered in snow.

When the cold takes over in this land of contrasts, Argentina's winter destinations offer a whole different side that delights and seduces visitors with a magical atmosphere. It is in the winter months when rivers, lakes, and mountains are covered with a white mantle: nature gets dressed up and displays new versions of the old classics of other seasons. Every corner of the country holds a frozen treasure waiting to be discovered by those who seek unique experiences.

1) The End of the World Train, Tierra del Fuego

An attraction that finds its magic at any time of the year; that's beyond dispute. But what if you add snow to the mountains and woods of the Tierra del Fuego National Park? All the better, then! This is how one of the most important places to visit at the End of the World becomes a dazzling spectacle. In its beginnings, it was used as a freight train for the Ushuaia Prison. In 1947, this famous institution was shut down and, five years later, the train route also came to an end. It was not until 1994 that the new railway line arrived, this time with a purely touristic purpose. The rest is history.

This train journey's scenery is out of this world: waterfalls, snow-capped peaks, white forests and something mystical hidden in each carriage. The starting point is the End of the World Station, located on the outskirts of the provincial capital, Ushuaia. Along the route, there are two more stops strategically placed to take pictures of the surroundings. This unique route is open in all seasons, but winter stands out above the rest.

2) Termas de Copahue, Neuquén

Hot and cold both at the same place? Yes, indeed. That's the charm of hot springs. Apart from providing a full dose of natural minerals beneficial to the body, the chance to enjoy a warm bath during winter is greatly improved when the scenery plays its part. This is the case of the Termas de Copahue hot springs, in the province of Neuquén. In this heavenly spot, you can wear your swimming costume in the midst of snow-filled mountains. Being so close to these snowy peaks makes you feel like you are in the middle of a white oasis, but protected from the cold.

Hot springs offer a wide range of treatments for different pathologies, applying techniques such as hydro-kinesiotherapy, mud or algae therapy, immersion baths, and hydromassage, among others

3) Villa Pehuenia, Neuquén

An ideal destination for those who enjoy the best of winter activities: skiing, snowshoeing, sledding and snowboarding are some of the season's typical sports. And they can all be enjoyed in this corner of Neuquén. This mountain village combines wooden architecture with places where gastronomy is the star, and the native flora decorates the scenery. The snow on every peak and slope is what turns this destination into the backdrop of a fairy tale. The Cerro Batea Mahuida, run by the Mapuche Puel Community, becomes the centre of attention and offers a wide range of possibilities for tourists who are eager to have a first-hand experience of snow. Besides, the lakes and forests are also covered with whitish tones in routes that involve both 4WD rides and walks in the surroundings to get immersed in nature.
